Learning for a new generation.

Next Gen Science Innovations

Next Gen Science Innovations was founded by teachers who understand the needs and realities of other classroom teachers. Our emphasis is on supporting teachers and other district leaders in their development of equitable and inclusive classrooms while increasing their confidence in implementing phenomena-based, three-dimensional NGSS lessons and strategies.

Supporting teachers and administrators in making science more accessible for all students.

What We Provide

District-wide Support

Our team at NGSI understands that districts are in various stages of NGSS implementation. We look forward to providing support that meets the specific needs of your teachers, administrators and students.

Innovative Approaches

All means ALL. The central theme of our workshops is helping teachers build and maintain equitable and inclusive classrooms. We highlight multiple strategies in the context of high-quality science content.

Effective Implementation

We recognize that NGSS implementation requires classrooms shifts, as well as new content. Our workshops offer a range: from creating a curiosity-driven classroom and building student discourse, through student modeling and mathematical/computational thinking, and continuing with full instructional segments, assessment and grading.

Meet our team.

Lisa Gordon
Coordinator of Secondary Science
Irvine Unified School District

“Jim and Samantha have made a profound positive impact on science instruction up and down the entire state of CA, including here in IUSD. Their practical approaches to a complex transition to new science standards have made us examine our current practices and make small changes that have resulted in higher levels of student learning. They have encouraged some shifts in our mindsets on how we approach teaching and assessment as powerful and related tools for motivating students.  They encourage us to “take risks, work persistently, and communicate productively” with one another just as we would do with our students, throughout these sometimes difficult times of change.”

Dr. Meghan Bray
Secondary Science Coordinator
Rockwood Unified School District, Rockwood MOA.

“Next Generation Science Innovations provided teachers with a professional learning experience that helped build their confidence in implementing Next Generation Science Standards.   Their use of hands-on activities throughout the day engaged teachers in the learning and got them talking, processing, and thinking about how they could transfer the strategies presented to their classroom.”

“Jim/Samantha; that was quite possibly the best single workshop I’ve attended in a 24 year career.”

Angela Goodman
Sixth Grade Teacher
NTSA-goer

This is fabulous. I love working with groups. This is something where Jim got us up and moving and walking around the room and looking to see collaboration techniques. This is definitely something I’m going to take back to my classroom. This is real world, usable stuff that I’m going to use to teach sixth grade science, and I think this is something that I’ll probably use as soon as this upcoming Monday.
